I discovered this band just a
few weeks ago, and must say I got really impressed over this bands work.
Musically the band combines different styles like melodic rock, progressive
rock, hard rock and in my ears they sound like a mix of Yes, Karnataka, Mostly
Autumn, It Bites.
What I especially like about
this band is the two singers Kim and Rob. Many of the songs are duets between
the two singers, but they also sing parts separately. I feel that Touchstone
has managed to get their own style and after listening a lot lately to this
band I have got really hooked on their songs, and to tell the truth it`s one of
the best British bands I`ve heard in many years.
The album opens with a bit
mystical intro who leads us to the titletrack Discordant Dreams. From the first
chords on the guitar we are dragged into a nice musical landscape, a strong
song with a fine melody and a great chorus. The instrumentation is delicate
with nice details and the vocals from both singers are just beautiful!
Curious Angel is a more
melodic, pop, rock oriented song and a song that grows for each time I hear it.
The guitar riffs right before the chorus are really cool and the instrumental
part with keys and guitar are great listening!
See The Light starts with a two
minute long instrumental part. A song with a more progressive feel that are
also a bit more experimental, but still with a great melody throughout and the
soft parts are really nice with a great mood. The song
Being Hannah really shows the
strength the two singers have and how their voices suits perfectly together.
Shadow is a very nice and
melodic song, but has parts with tougher guitars and the instrumental bits give
the song an interesting progressive touch.
Winter coast Instrumental is a
short guitar played song that takes us to the next beautiful song Ocean Down.
Also here we hear the capacity of the two singers, and it's just fantastic to
listen to!
Blacktide opens with an
acoustic sound and feel with the voices from the singers on top. It builds up
throughout and the instrumentation in this song is of high caliber.
Dignity opens with a very warm
and moody touch, also here the vocals are beautiful. The song has a more up
tempo instrumental part with great keys and guitars. The song slows down again
at the end almost as it started.
The Beggar`s Song ends this
fine album, and it perfectly sums up many of the styles Touchstone gives us
throughout the album. 98/100
