Henry William Rogers was born on the 6th June 1991 in Stoke – on – Trent in the West Midlands. His passion for music developed at a really early age, mostly due to the influence of his father who introduced him to bands like, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Yes, Marrilion, ACDC, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and many more!
He always showed a keen interest in his brothers drum kit, but never undertook any formal lessons until he was thirteen years old. He was a natural and felt very at home behind a drum kit. Drumming became his passion – practising was always a pleasure for him and never a chore. Within eight months he was playing successfully in a local pub band and relishing in the live experience!
Henry’s music base has always been jazz and he has always been heavily influenced by the music around him. Since his first set of drum lessons with a big band / swing- styled teacher, Henry has always been fascinated with the jazz side of music. He feels jazz/jazz fusion compositions push the boundaries more than anything else and as a drummer it is the most enduring and passionate way of playing imaginable. When Henry started to develop as a drummer and become more intense, he adopted a very unique style. He was unable to escape his jazz routes but also incorporated a rock – funk and prog-metal side to his playing. Henry is a big believer in finding the perfect groove and rhythm for a song or even in a drum solo for people to listen to, which is where the jazz style comes into play. He then adds his technical / driven style to create a very unique versatile style of playing.
In 2007 he became involved in a project with some school friends, the outcome of this was a band called ‘The White Orchids’. They wrote all of their own music and performed gigs all over Stoke – on –Trent. They appeared at venues such as “The Underground” “ The Sugar Mill” and they became so popular that they were invited to play at “Manchester Academy” supporting bands like ‘The Crimea’ ‘The Gentleman’ a thrilling experience for anyone at the age of 15! ‘The White orchids’ Started to build up a huge local following and put together an album entitled “Run Away” which derived from one the more popular tracks on the album. Unfortunately just as the band were looking at contracts and were becoming involved in the music scene in London they split up due to members going off to attend university courses.
Henry was also fortunate enough to be part of a progressive rock band called ‘Final Conflict’. The band has been established for twenty three years and is therefore made up of very experienced musicians. They play live gigs all over the UK and have released six albums and a live DVD. They recently toured in Lithuania and Poland. They have played for the “Classic Rock Society” many times and in 2007 Henry was voted second best drummer and 4th best in 2008 by the members of the CRS at the BOTY awards night. Henry and Final Conflict have played with Oliver Wakeman (Yes, Strawbs) Spock’s Beard (USA), Pendragon, Glen Tulbrook (Squeeze), Panzerballett (Germany), Delirium (Italy), Pain of salvation (Sweden) and It Bites to name just a few.
Henry recently joined the award winning band DeeExpus who are based in Durham and he now plays in several bands. DeeExpus have not been aroud on the music scene for a great deal of time but are building up a substantial reputation very quickly, with many members of the public and reviews from all over the world stating the new album “Half Way Home” to be "one of the best albums released this year". It has been voted 8,9 & 10/10 by critics from magazines and web sites such as Classic Rock Magazine, DPRP and Metal Hammer (Poland). DeeExpus have recently been voted "Third best unsigned band" by Classic Rock and "Best New Band" by The Classic Rock Society!
Henry is thrilled to be involved in such a project and is just expanding his musical knowledge and direction, with him now being involved in a band that really lets him experiment on the kit and requires and demands the more involved technical edge of his talents.
With Henry now finding new musical directions to take and bands such as ‘Porcupine Tree’ with the great Gavin Harrison and ‘Dream Theatre’ with Mike Portnoy, influencing his playing, there are endless possibilities for Henry. DeeExpus has recently played at the Cambridge Rock Festival with Uriah Heep, BJH, Focus and Asia. They have already secured several bookings at prestigious venues and a tour ( yet to be announced) for 2010. They will also be attending Rosfest in the USA in 2010.
If all of this doesnt manage to keep Henry busy enough..He is now involved in two new projects which take him again in different musical directions! The first of these would be working along side the infamous Tony Harn and Dave Jones! This progressive Jazz Trio entitled 'Nerve Toy' is something completely unique on the market at the moment and there is alot of excitment surrounding it as prepartions for the fourthcoming album are in its latter stages! 'Nerve Toy' are looking now to book up some gigs for later on in the year so that the music can be heard for the first in its current state live!
The second of these projects is the new and commercial band 'Sort Code'! This band takes heavy influence from Sigur Ros, Porcupine Tree, Faith No More and Muse. This would categorise this band in the 'Mainstream Market'. The music is full of exciting guitar and vocal harmanies backed by a powerful rhythm section. The aim is to be very much to be an infectious and mood lifting band.... Great verses and catchy choruses!!
With two new albums due for release and his busy schedule of live performances, Henry is fast becoming a permanent and recognisable member of today’s music scene.
